Price war mal wieder on fire :>

                      Kovalev to Penguins

HABS ACQUIRE SOPEL, DAWES FROM THRASHERS FOR MAXWELL, PICK

                              NHL Trade Deadline Confidential
Our panel of players dish on key questions for NHL's final shopping day
                              Spoiler:
As the clock winds down to the NHL's Feb. 28, 3 p.m. EST trade deadline, some Stanley Cup contenders have already hit the market, picking up pieces they hope will bolster their playoff success. In the next several days, top teams will continue to shop, while those out of the hunt look to build for next year. We asked 20 players from eight NHL teams how they feel about deadline day. Once again, we promised anonymity, and they promised the truth.
                              1. Are you usually nervous around deadline day?

The majority of NHLers -- 80 percent, in this case -- understand hockey is a business and trades are part of its day-to-day operations. "Whatever happens, happens," said one Eastern Conference player. "You can't control it, so there's no point in worrying about it." Still, there can be some anxiety. "You're more nervous when you're young and haven't been through it before, or when you have a family you'd have to move," said an Eastern Conference player. "But you get used to it."

                              2. Do you think your team will make a trade before the deadline?

70 percent of players polled said yes, their team will make a trade. 20 percent weren't sure, and only 10 percent thought management was happy with the roster as is. The overwhelming majority (70 percent) believe their team will be buyers, rather than sellers, signaling how many teams still remain in the playoff hunt.

                              3. If you knew you were getting traded, what team would you like to get traded to and why?

The most popular answer to this question, with 30 percent of the vote, was pretty general: "a contender." Other answers: Los Angeles, "because of the sunshine;" Vancouver, "because it's all about winning hockey games" and "they're the best team in the league;" Detroit, "because they always have a chance to win" and "it's near my hometown;" Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Montreal.

                              4. If you knew you were getting traded, what would be the team you'd least like to be traded to? Why?

Tied with 25 percent of the vote were "any team not in the playoffs" and the Edmonton Oilers, because "they're the least likely to win the Cup," "they're in last place" and "they always seem to be rebuilding." Other answers: Atlanta, "because it's not a hockey market" and "they have no fans;" New Jersey, "because I've heard horror stories about how things are done there;" the Islanders, "because it's Long Island;" Toronto, "because of the media scrutiny;" Columbus and Calgary.

                              5. How long does it take for new players to mesh with their new team?

40 percent of players polled agreed it takes "a couple of weeks" for new players to fit in. But, depending on "chemistry," "personality" and "the dressing room," it can take "six to eight hours," "one game," "two to three games," "one week" or "half a season."

                              6. Does your team have a need you'd like to see addressed through a trade? If so, what is it?

60 percent of players feel their teams are missing at least one ingredient, some more serious than others. For example, some clamored for a puck-moving D-man, others a top-flight forward. One wanted something different altogether: "I'd like someone with a better iPod, because our playlists are a little shaky."

                              7. Is there a player on your team you hope gets traded away?

80 percent of players said no way, while 15 percent refused to answer. However, one player, from an Eastern Conference contender, said yes, there is a teammate he'd like to see shipped out.

                              8. Does your team have a bitter rival and would you care if you were traded to that team?

80 percent of players polled said yes, their team does have a bitter rival, and 80 percent said no, they wouldn't mind being traded to that team. "Even if you hate the other guys on the ice, they usually turn out to be pretty good guys off the ice," said one Western Conference player.

                              9. If you knew you were going to be traded, would you rather go to a small-market or big-market team?

55 percent of players polled would rather be traded to a big-market team. 15 percent chose a small market, while 30 percent said it didn't matter. "I've played in both types of markets, and it doesn't matter to me," said one Eastern Conference player. "I just prefer if it's warm."

                              10. Have you ever asked to be traded?

70 percent of players polled have never asked to be traded. 30 percent said yes, they have had that awkward discussion with management.

                              11. If you were traded to a team you didn't want to play for, would you consider not reporting to that team?

Only one player polled -- a Western Conference veteran -- would consider not reporting to a team he didn't want to play for. 95 percent of players would report no matter what, "because no play equals no pay."

                                Interessante Umfrage.
